UP College of Business Administration Recognition Ceremonies

26 April (Sunday), 12nn - 2pm, UP Theatre

...] Sumasainyo, O Diyos, ang papuri at pagsamba, magpakailanman, magpasawalang-hanggan. AMEN.

Maligayang Pagtatapos sa Batch 2009!!!

UNIV 2010

The Theme of the 43rd Annual International University UNIV Forum is:
Can Christianity inspire a global culture?
Rome, March 27–April 4, 2010

Suggested Points of Reflection (source: http://univforum.org/english/univ2010.html):

- The role of the concepts of human person, society, happiness, etc., in economic thought. Are they only one more option among various models and policies?

- When it comes to making laws, how can one design a juridical system capable of welcoming people of radically diverse convictions?

- The need for Christians to communicate their own beliefs while respecting the freedom of others and still having a real influence on society.

- The philosophical debate on whether transcendence and an acknowledgement of God are a necessary basis for a global culture.

- The human and moral formation of the leaders of contemporary societies.

- The origin of the Modern Constitutional State as a defender of the dignity of the person and guarantor of liberty and political participation.

FOR UNIV PHILIPPINES:

1. Philosophical grounding, through Metaphysics (‘Philosophy of Being’):

Since Christianity and Culture are combined in the 2010 Theme, we need to be grounded in both themes.  For the more philosophical basis for understanding culture, I would suggest, as I have been doing since UNIV 2004, reading the excellent Address made by Prof. Tomás Melendo Granados entitled “LA METAFÍSICA, CRITERIO DE CULTURA AL SERVICIO DE LA FE”.

English translation (“METAPHYSICS: CULTURE AT THE SERVICE OF THE FAITH”) can be found here:

http://arvo.net/metafisica/metaphysics-culture-at-the-se/gmx-niv582-con12189.htm

A simplified, shortened, summarized version can be found here:

http://www.racelis.com/aliza/

2. The CHRISTIANITY part of the 2010 Theme:

I would suggest going through the works of C.S. Lewis, one of the most influential Christian apologists of his time and, I must say, also of OUR time.  Read, in particular, his important work “MERE CHRISTIANITY”.  There are many resources on the Internet for C.S. Lewis.  Aside from this, we can discuss Christianity from different cultural perspectives: Art, Literature, Music… Here are just a few examples:

http://catholiceducation.org/articles/arts/al0107.html

(“J.R.R. Tolkien: Truth and Myth”)

http://larosaderialp.wordpress.com/2009/06/03/la-mision-cristiana-en-el-tercer-milenio/

(Great article! On “The Christian Mission in the Third Millennium”...)

http://arvo.net/arte-belleza-elegancia/arte-belleza-elegancia/gmx-niv401-con16257.htm

(How to communicate Christianity with the language –new & creative– of our times.)

http://arvo.net/arte-belleza-elegancia/arte-un-regalo-de-dios/gmx-niv401-con10875.htm

(“Art: Gift of God” – “The heart has reasons that reason itself may not understand…”)

It would also be very interesting to study the stories of the recent CONVERSIONS of specific people, e.g., Tony Blair, Eduardo Verástegui [Mexican actor of movie “Bella”], etc.

3. For the CULTURE part of the 2010 Theme:

Apart from Prof. Tomás Melendo Granados’ excellent article cited above, I’d suggest the following:

http://catholiceducation.org/articles/civilization/cc0117.html

(Great article! “Culture ultimately owes something to Christianity”)

http://catholiceducation.org/articles/education/ed0146.html

(Culture and Education: Although this is about American schools, Philippine Educators can turn it around and discuss it from the Philippine education perpective)

http://www.catholiceducation.org/articles/apologetics/ap0216.htm

(Christian apologetics article, on imbuing culture and politics with a Christian worldview)

http://catholiceducation.org/articles/arts/al0225.html

(A review of “Reading the Classics with C.S.Lewis”, an appropriate reading for those who want to do topics on integrating the important fields of knowledge into our education, a.k.a. “Liberal Arts Education” or “General Education Program” ;-)

4. Specific Paper Topics and Suggestions:

For those who want to write on “Christianity and Politics”, I would recommend:

http://catholiceducation.org/articles/politics/pg0044.html

For the topic of “Religion and the Internet”, I would suggest this great article, on the role of the Christian in the age of the Internet and Social Networking Sites:

http://alizaracelis.googlepages.com/religion-in-the-age-of-the-internet

For the topic: “Suffering and Pain”:

http://catholiceducation.org/articles/apologetics/ap0032.html

For those who want to write on “Democracy”, I would recommend:
